Bf109 G6 dataplate research
Hello everyone,
This is my first post on the forum so I would like to take the opportunity to thanks everyone here for the great information available. I live in South of France and my passion is about everything that concern the Bf109, especially aicraft archeology and all information about Jagdgruppe Sud. Today I would like to share with you this great find. This is a dataplate from a Bf109 G6 that i found on a crash site. This plate is obviously not the main dataplate but I cannot refer it to any other data plates that we usually found on the famous Bf109. As you can see this data plate is made of aluminum and manually stamped. I wonder if any of you could help me identify the purpose of this dataplate and where it could have been located on the aircraft. Important information to note is that 100 kms this crash ... if found a second very similar but for a Bf109 F4. I would appreciate any help from you. Best regards Mat |

Re: Bf109 G6 dataplate research
Hello Mat,
Unless I am mistaken, your Typenschild is from: Messerschmitt-Regensburg-built Bf 109 G-6, WNr. 18200, Stammkennzeichen TO+JL. The Übersichtsliste Bf109 (Overview list) shows this as being the last in a Bf 109 G-6 production series starting with 18001. Steve Sheflin |

Re: Bf109 G6 dataplate research
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the interesting information regarding this Typenschild being from a tool box. It does, however, beg the question of why it would have been found among crash remnants? Steve Sheflin |

Re: Bf109 G6 dataplate research
Yes...
These are offered quite a bit on eBay. It was not attached to the aircraft. I do not have a pic of the toolbox, though... Steve is the data plate expert (he is on here quite a bit)...he may be able to shed more light on this. Mike |
