Re: German aircraft damaged at Vaerlose airfield, 29-30 Aug 1944
All,
I am continue with my plea for German losses shot down by W/C Hoare. This time I am trying to see if there was any information on 2x German aircraft that were damaged earlier hours of the 30 August at Vaerlose airfield. I am afraid I do not have anything further on this detail. Thanks Danny Burt

Re: German aircraft damaged at Vaerlose airfield, 29-30 Aug 1944
I might be able to narrow it down, looking at the German units based here during August 44.
Operational Units: 13./Fliegerzielgeschwader 1 (Dec 43 – Jul 44); 5. Minensuchstaffel (Jun 44 – May 45); detachment of I./NJG 7 (Sep-Oct 44); elements of IV./NJG 2 (Nov 44 – Feb 45). Thanks Danny

Re: German aircraft damaged at Vaerlose airfield, 29-30 Aug 1944
The problem you have yet again is damaged with no crew casualties, the QMG's Returns are missing for 1944 so the only source would be NVMs (need casualties) KTBs or other diaries. That said, nothing in the usual sources for those NJGs and MSG and the other unit according to you had gone by August 1944. Maybe our Danish friends have an idea?

Re: German aircraft damaged at Vaerlose airfield, 29-30 Aug 1944
Hello.
You might try to contact Carsten Petersen, he is active on this forum. Carsten has written quite a lot about airwar over Denmark, and is really THE expert on this subject. It is mainly books, but Carsten has put some of the material on a homepage. Try to see http://www.luftkrig1939-45.dk/ There is a section regarding activity in August 1944. Try this link: http://www.luftkrig1939-45.dk/pdf/August_1944/019.pdf On the middle of page 2 to page 5, there is an entry on a day ranger mission, attacking Vaerloese on August 30th 1944. That might be the data you are looking for?? The material is in Danish, but bing microsoft translate handles is pretty well. The page is to big to auto translate, so you have to copy the text in question. Regards Poul |

Re: German aircraft damaged at Vaerlose airfield, 29-30 Aug 1944
Hoare og Gregory claimed that they damaged to u/i airplanes. One of them was a two engined a/c, which was taxien on the ground after landing. The attack did not take place at Vaerloese, but 6 km northeast of Herning in Mid Jutland.
Hoare attacked a dummy air field at Skinderholm near Sunds and attacked two dummy airplanes. The dummy airfield was equipped with a dummy a/c that was moving on the ground (with lights on). The dummy plane was also equipped with pyro technic that could be activated so that it looked as if the plane exploded. The dummy airfield was serviced by three old soldiers. Nobody was hurt. |
