Re: Info needed on Ме-110 F2 W.Nr. 4547 LN+MR JG5
According to JFV 9/III, 13.(Z)/JG 5 loss-list, page 504, date 13 August 1942, there was a Sonderführer, probably a PK Kriegsberichter, aboard this aircraft - SdFhr. Hans Kuhnke.

There was a reason v. Rabenau & Karl were sent to the 'naughty' Staffel from ZG 1.

On 10/6/42 v. Rabenau & Karl undertook a mission in S9+SL, and had to make an emergency landing in a corn field. It was found that the aircraft still had the fin/rudder locks on! It was the responsibility of the pilot to check everything connected to the airworthiness/flyabilty of the aircraft before take-off. Karl told me the fault for the fin/rudder locks being on the aircraft was solely that of the pilot, as it was one of his exterior checks to be undetaken before take-off on any flight. However both he and v. Rabenau were grounded for a week. Karl then flew for a short time on missions with Lt. Kötz and Fw. Lußky. He and v. Rabenau were then posted to JG 5, as both were deemed culpable of the fin/rudder lock offence. Karl was understandably quite miffed at being found guilty of a matter that was not his responsibility at all! He told me JG 5 was the unit that aircrew were sent to if they had committed offences, etc.. I did not disbelieve him, since he was the one on the spot and knew about such things. That's how the crew of von Rabenau & Schröder ended up with the Zerstörer Staffel of JG 5.
