Do217 5461 Dieppe Raid

Do217 5461 from 5./KG2 was lost during Dieppe Raid on 19/8/42.

I had the pilot as Ltn H. Anders, but looking through POW reports in document AIR40/2410 got at Kew, the pilot is noted as being Ltn Andres. Is this a typo? Curiously the survivor Uffr Deubler is listed as being from 2./KG2 not 5.Staffel? Which is correct?

Any clarification to the above gratefully received. Thanks.

Regards,

Steve

Lt Ernst Andres and Uffz Vitus Deubler. Balke has Andres uninjured, Gohr and Baumgart POW and Deubler missing!

Re: Do217 5461 Dieppe Raid

Hello Steve,

Gen.Qu. loss return 21 Aug 1942 with corrections from 9 Sep 1942 and 8 Oct 1942:
19.8. II./KG 2 Feindflug, Ort: bei Dieppe, Ursache: Absturz infolge Feindbeschuss (Flugzeugführer gerettet), Do 217 E-4 5461 U5+QN 100%.
B Ofw Gohr, Harry +
Bf Uffz Baumgart, Werner +
Bm Uffz Deubler, Vitus vermisst.
In the KG 2 chronicle of Ulf Balke the pilot of 5461 is listed as Lt Ernst Andres.

On 5 May 1943 he was injured crash landing the Do 217 K-1 4415 U5+AA north of Amsterdam due to engine failure. In the Gen.Qu. loss return from 8 May 1943 he is listed as Lt Ernst Andres.

Regards
Leo

Re: Do217 5461 Dieppe Raid

Hi Gents, thanks for both those.

I have for 5461;

Ltn E. Andres (Pilot)- Recovered (corrected from Anders)
Ofw Harry Gohr (Obs)- Killed
Uffz Titus Deubler (BM)- POW
Uffz Warner Baumgart (R)- Killed

In his POW report Uffz Deubler reported the pilot killed and Observer and Radio operator pressumed killed. Also it incorrectly identified his unit as 2./KG2.

Sadly I've not been able to identify which Allied naval vessel picked him up.

Regards,

Steve
