KNEMEYER, Siegfried

H.O. -

KNEMEYER, Siegfried. (DOB: 05.04.09 in Ellerbusch). (R,DKG). 08.05.41 Oblt., in Aufkl.Gr. Ob.d.L. 27.07.42 Hptm., awarded DKG, 4./Aufkl.Gr. Ob.d.L. 09.42 Chef d.Amtsgruppe Flugzeugentwicklung in GL (Generalluftzeugmeister) (to 15.11.44?). 05.05.43 Hptm. (Kr.O.) with Versuchsverband Ob.d.L., trf to Stab/Angriffsführer England. 25.05.43 assigned new RDA of 01.02.40 for Hptm. 29.08.43 Maj., awarded Ritterkreuz for service as Kdr. Aufkl.Gr. Ob.d.L. 18.10.43 Obstlt. and Techn.Offz. beim Ob.d.L. (also as: T.O. beim Reichsmarschall). 26.03.45 Oberst, Chef Hochfrequenz d.Lw./Generalnachrichtenführer in OKL. †11.04.79 in USA.

The S.I.R. transcripts are a very large collection and come in several sub-series. They can be purchased on microfilm (Warning: 16 mm not 35 mm) from the Air Forces Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. But I do not think they have an index.

The originals should be at the British National Archives in London, provided they are now declassified and available to the public.

I do not know if Siegfried Knemeyer appears in these transcripts, but there most certainly are interrogation reports of one sort or another on him. He would have been a major intelligence target because of his involvement in cutting edge technical projects.

Re: KNEMEYER, Siegfried

Knemeyer was asked to prepare a report from memory on the history of the He 162 - APWIU 48/1945 (AIR 40/3122).

Re: KNEMEYER, Siegfried

"...Knemeyer was positioned to be the Technical Director of the Flight Control Laboratory at Wright Field but requested to serve as a consultant instead, so he could focus on new inventions and technical developments as opposed to the bureaucracy he observed within the organization. In this position he provided technical vision and leadership to hundreds of aviation advances."

Re: KNEMEYER, Siegfried

Is it known how many combat sorties (missions) Oberst Knemeyer flew in WW2?
