Me109E Data Plate Info - Flugzeugbau meaning

Hey guys...

My understanding of Flugzeugbau is the direct translation: Aircraft Construction.

I have a main data plate from an Me109E Vertical Stabilizer...and where it would normally have a "W.Nr." stamped...it has "FB".

On these early aircraft parts, I have seen "Flugzeugbau" representing the MAIN aircraft ID...and not a part number. Fore example, I have seen "W.Nr." and "FB" on the same data plate...one representing the part serial number, the other representing the main aircraft serial number.

"10243" however is a main ID for an Me109F...and I know for sure that an Me109E vertical stab will not fit on an Me109F...so I am assuming this should be interpreted as the part serial number...

The "Z" on the bottom, from what I understand, indicates it is from an Me109 E with a GM-1. So an Me109 E-7 Z.

Would everyone else concur?

Mike

Re: Me109E Data Plate Info - Flugzeugbau meaning

Likely possibilities…

"Z" is an abbreviated form of Zeichnung, translated as drawing, which is seen on component plates in various forms (e.g., Zeichn-Nr., Zeichng.Nr., Z.Nr., ZNr.). Thus, "Z 109 302" would link to the reference number for the component's manufacturing drawing. Konstruktionsgruppen "3" is the tail unit, so ""3"02" also relates as the plate is on a vert. stab.

"FB" is an abbreviated form of Fabrikationsnummer or Fabriknummer, translated as fabrication/factory number. Other forms noted on plates are: Fabr.Nr., Fb.Nr., F.Nr., and F.N. "FB 10243" is more likely a component production serial number, not an aircraft main number.

Yes,I would concur with Stephen.
You have the contractors ref on the top line, "AEG Wildau FB 10243", where the FB is Flugzeugbau or Aircraft builder. In this context, the 10243 indicates a AEG Wildau construction serial number for the component, not the W.Nr of the Airframe.
109.302 is the correct number for the Bf109E vertical fin assembly.
Cheers
