Fw-190A-4 - Wnr. 2385 - 8./JG 26 - 3 June 1943

An 8./JG 26 Fw-190A-4 with Wnr. 2385 reportedly made a forced landing at "Zwede bei Brügge" on 3 June 1943 due to engine trouble.

Being a local of Brugge/Bruges/Brügge (make your choice), I have no idea what they mean with "Zwede" here as there's no locality in the immediate area that resembles such a name.

Incident not in Caldwell's JG 26 books (damage too slight).

Is a Luftwaffe document available that can shed some light?

Thanks for info.

Regards,

Leendert

Jochen Prien has Wk Nr 2395 at Zwolle due to engine trouble and suffered 10% damage

Chris,

SGLO Dutch database has same info you gave: Zwolle.

I start to wonder if report said "Zwolle bei Brücke" (Zwolle near bridge (over IJssel River)", but am afraid that's going to be too much speculation...

If 8. Staffel was also involved in moving from the Channel front to Cuxhaven-Nordholz at that time, it may explain why this Fw-190 was midways at Zwolle.

The GQM says "Zwede bei Brügge". I can confirm also that the SGLO list took the data from Prien. I am currently in the process of checking the whole of 1943 of the SGLO list (Luftwaffe) but this will take a while. For 1943 the whole of JG 26 has not been checked yet.

In the II./JG 26 loss tables in JFV 10/IV the Fw 190 A-4 WNr. 2395 is listed as a plane of the 4./JG 26, white 7. According to this on 26 May 1943 the plane was 25% damaged at the airfield Merville (page 559) and on 14 July 1943 destroyed at the airfield Villacoublay (page 560).

Thanks for all info. As for Wnr. 2385, the name "Zwede" remains mysterious...
