Grp Capt Walter Donald Butler (26008)

Hi guys

Grp Capt Walter Donald Butler was killed on 18 September 1943. Aged 37, he was CO No.285 Reconnaissance Wing (40SAAF, 60SAAF).

His only award seems to have been a MiD.

Has anyone details re his RAF service prior to taking command of No.285 Wing?

It would seem that his death was caused by an American fighter colliding with his Hurricane whilst on the ground.

Cheers
Brian
