Fhj.Fw. Wolfram von Richthofen Abschuss 31.5,1944

If someone is in possession of SG-2 history book or records
would be grateful if there could be some details as into the
the downing of a Soviet P-39 of 16 GvIAP claimed on
31.5.1944 near Iasi by Fhj.Fw. Wolfram von Richthofen
SG-2 on his JU-87. Only six days later he would be shot
down in the same area by a Soviet ace . Second question
about same topic , when did 6./SG-2 converted to FW-190 ?

Hi Alex,

The unit was entirely equipped with the FW 190 at that point.

Cheers,

Hi Alex,

If I had more spare time, I would definitely do some digging! Looks like it was a joint mission with I./S.G. 10, but more than that I can't say at the moment, sorry.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Re: Fhj.Fw. Wolfram von Richthofen Abschuss 31.5,1944

When the StG were renamed into Schlachtgeschwader on 18.10.43 the former II./SchG 1 became II./SG 2, the unit was already equipped with the Fw 190F since spring 1943.

von Richthofen was shot down 5.06.44 with his Fw 190F-8 WNr. 580056 "yellow G" north of Jassy by a Jak 9.

Re: Fhj.Fw. Wolfram von Richthofen Abschuss 31.5,1944

Hello Alex,

Flieger Wolfram von Richthofen was reported MIA after dogfight with JAK-9
N of Jassy on 31. Juli 1944. He was flying a Fw 190 F8, Werknummer 580056, "yellow 6" (source: WAST).

II/SG 2 was formed in October 1943 only and had an initial strenght of 19 Fw 190s.

Andrew and Gerhard

Many thanks for your the good hinds .I think we get a little closer . On air battle N of Iassi on a later
or earlier date two JU-87. 1 FW-190 and 2 JU-88's were brought down by 16 GvIAP . Local archeologists
discovered this remain few weeks ago .Based on the Werk & Sach Nummer is there a possibility to tell which aircraft
was this eventually the pilot who flew the aircraft ? Gerhard my records indicating that W.von Richthofen was
shot down on June 5,1944 by V.E.Sereda .Can you verify again your date ?

Hi,
A bit off topic; How is that book about SG-1,2,4,10.
I mean unit history, unit leaders, bases, losses and missions.
I’m interesting about it .
Thanks;
Eduardo.

Eduardo,

I don't know if this is of any use to you but I have photos of:

Gfr. Alois Oberlaber, 2./SG 2, Bordfunker.

Ofhnr. Josef Eitzlmayr, 9./SG 2, Pilot.

Uffz. Franz Bauer, 6./SG 4, Pilot.

Uffz. Franz Dess, 5./SG 10, Pilot.

These photos are on deathcards but I also have the circumstances on their final flights.

Christian
