Lichtenstein-Gerät at sea

Hello,

Lichtenstein-Gerät (radar) was using in the Black Sea from Feb.1943 (initially for combat test), first success was in Mar.1943.
Has it been used for maritime recce in other theaters, and since when?

Best regards,
Andrey

It was in use in the Mediterranean in the Summer of 1942.

Re: Lichtenstein-Gerät at sea

Thank you, Nick!

As Lichtenstein was using by Erprobung Kommando at Black Sea half year later, maybe it means that new modification was testing? Maybe FuG212 Lichtenstein C1?

Best regards,
Andrey

Re: Lichtenstein-Gerät at sea

Nick, do you know, where Lichtenstein planes were used in 1942 - in MGK Sued area (East Mediterranean) or in the West Mediterranean or everywhere?

P.S. I know that "sea Lichtenstein" had the designation "Lichtenstein S" but that is the FuG number? Also, its range and other technical characteristics are interesting.

Best regards,
Andrey

Re: Lichtenstein-Gerät at sea

If possible, a few more question.
In Soviet review of captured German airborn radars (1946) the anti-ship "Lichtenstein S" is mentioned but only as predcessor of "Lichtenstein SN2".
Whether the "Lichtenstein S" had some modifications or in 1942 and 1943 it was the same radar?

What unit(s) had "Lichtenstein" in Mediterraneanand whter it was anti-ship radar or radar for the night air intercept?

Best regards,
Andrey

There are various mentions of Lichtenstein in my article on Komando Koch, some of which are for ship search and others used by night fighters.

A quote from the article about Kommando Koch:

Someone in RAF Intelligence pencilled a laconic assessment against this passage: ”Major Koch shoots a bit of a line.”
"shoots a bit of a line" - is it an ironic idiome?

Best regards,
Andrey

RAF slang for exaggerates, overstates his achievements, fantasises.
