Vickers Vincent - January 1943
Apart from the Swordfish and perhaps an Albacore or two still in RAF-use in 1945, was the Vickers Vincent the last biplane in a combat role in a numbered squadron?
I gathered that the Mideast-based 244 Squadron handed in its last Vincent as late as January 1943 and I just wondered if there are later examples for RAF-biplanes. Regards, Leendert |

Re: Vickers Vincent - January 1943
I'm not sure that the Vincents of 244 were still in a combat role by January 1943, the squadron having re-equipped with Blenheims in April 1942. A biplane that was seen later in a combat zone was the Walrus with the ASR units. I'm not sure whether the Sea Otter reached these units or only the FAA before the end of the war.

Graham,
Quite right. I forgot the Walrus. Regards, Leendert |
