Typhoon claims on 12/06/44?

Hello

According to one of my sources (J.B.Frappé):10.45h
Four Fw.190 (JG2) were shot down by Typhoon in the region of Caen/St Pierre -sur-Dives and two typhoon shot down.

Howewer, none of this is in Typhoon,Tempest story (C.Shores-C.Thomas)
So,error (who?),where the Typhoon are P-47?...which unit?

Michel

Re: Typhoon claims on 12/06/44?

2nd Tactical Air Force (Shores and Thomas) note the claims made by JG2 but all Typhoons lost were to flak or (in one case) flying into an electricity cable. No claims were made by Typhoons. Some two hours later four Fw190s were claimed by RAF Mustangs, but these are identified as belonging to III/SG4.

Re: Typhoon claims on 12/06/44?

Well,it seems that this is not Typhoons, but then what is the allied unit who shot down the four Fw.190 (JG2) in the region of Bayeux/Caen? 10.45h/11.00h

Hello Michel,

the four Fw 190 of the I./JG 2 were shot down by a P-47 pilot of the 368th Fighter Group in the area Lisieux.

Re: Typhoon claims on 12/06/44?

The pilot was Captain (later Major) Randall W Hendricks, 368th FG, 397th FS. Search for Hendricks on this page:

Note the page above has some links to gun camera videos.

Re: Typhoon claims on 12/06/44?

Leo,RSwank,Thanks a lot for your help
Remarkable feat on the part of Hendricks!

Clearly,Typhoons shot down are in reality the P-47 (s/n 42-76551,2Lt. Clarence Palmer,368 FG) crashed "Thiberville" and P-47 (s/n 42-76426,Lt.Walter Fraser,366 FG) crashed "Cresseveuille".....shared between Lemke,Breitweg(I/JG2),Wurmheller(III/JG2) and Wieland (IV/JG27)

Best Regards
Michel
