Delta Lily

Does anybody know what happened to 260 Squadron RAF's captured Heinkel 111 coded HS-? (ex KG 4) named 'Delta Lily' after the squadron disposed of it.

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Delta Lily

A photo of the plane appears here (search for Lily):

http://silverhawkauthor.com/axis-war...u-288_568.html

Label says "Heinkel He 111H, (Wk. Nr. unknown), previously` 5J + CR' of III / KG4, captured in Libya in 1942. Designated HS-? by the RAF, it was named "Delta Lily" and flown by No. 260 Squadron. It was reported as being on a scrap dump at Fanara in the Suez Canal Zone, Egypt in April 1947."

Re: Delta Lily

Thanks RSwank.

The Heinkel's original code was 5J + GR not 5J + CR.

Has anybody got any Luftwaffe loss details for 5J + GR please.

Post Re: Delta Lily

found this:

No. 260 Squadron ... took over a Heinkel He111H, previously 5J+CR of III/KG4. This was made airworthy by the Squadron and was painted in British markings, with the No. 260 Squadron code letters as HS-?. This aircraft was named Delta Lily and was handed over to No. 211 Group for use as a communications aircraft. It made its first flight from Martuba to Alexandria on 7th December 1942, piloted by F/Lt. R. Cundy. HS-? was noted on a scrap dump at Fanara in the Suez Canal Zone in April 1947."
