Italians in Russia 1941

Hi guys

I've read somewhere that the small Italian contingent that served with the Luftwaffe in Russia during 1941 suffered several friendly fire incidents, with German pilots mistaking SM79s, SM81s and Mc200s.

Can anyone provide details, please?

Cheers
Brian

Hello Brian

Some source, where you can read info. (but without any friendly fire incidents)

As far as I know, the only italian losses in the East due to german fire (one C.200 and one Ca.311) had been caused by Flak and not by fighter pilots.

Regards

Gianandrea

Brian and others

There is also a book published in 2008 Ali sulla Steppa by N Malizia.
Not yet bought it myself, but should contain at least some English translation.
In the articles I have (German and English) there is no mentioned friendly fire at all, which of course means nothing, but if such losses had been heavy, I suppose something should have been mentioned.

Cheers
Stig
