Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Looks like QT-U of 142 Sqn, for which I don't have a serial. Anyone?

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately, that is the much photographed QT-H at Berry-au-Bac airfield. I have never seen an image with the serial, though there are good grounds for believing it is L5440. It seems that a small number of 142 Sqn. Battles by 10 May 1940 had had their serials painted over, but most did not based on photographic evidence.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Martin,
Thanks, I should have spotted that QT-H was also possible.
Looking at photos, there seem to have been two QT-Hs abandoned in France.

One is always pictured surrounded by bushes and trees, the other is in more open terrain. For example:
https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gall...0-qth-front-2/

https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gall...-qt-h-142-sqn/
The automatic thing would be to assume they are the same aircraft, but I don't think they are.
Another QT-H was K9259, which was also abandoned at Berry-au-Bac at around the same time.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Alex

With 20 March 1941 I take it you mean its loss date?
From where does this come from?

All my sources state N3290 was lost 23 May 1940 (I checked three!)

Cheers
Stig

Hi Stig,

Of course it is 23 may 1940 when sgt J. Gillies crash-landed just beside Saint-Martin-Boulogne

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Thanks Bertrand

Yes it figures, although I never understood the point of running around with an oval ball on muddy pitches...

Cheers
