British Night Fighter Claim on April 11./12 1945

Hello,

does somebody know who could claim one (or more) He 111 during Night April 11/12 1945? Probably on Dresden-Klotzsche A/F. Luftlotte 6 only reported that "1 He 111 beim Ausrollen nach Landung durch Feindjaeger mit Bo.Wa. beschossen".

Thanks for help

Re: British Night Fighter Claim on April 11./12 1945

Hello Michal,

In the "Monthly Supplemenatry Narrative of Operations" (Bomber Command claims including Mosquitos Night Fighters of No.100 Group) there is a claim for a He 111 probably destroyed during the night 10/11 April but nothing on the following night. Claim was made by Mosquito "N" of No.239 Sqn at 00.05 hours at an A/F a few miles west of Berlin.

Regards,
Peter

Flt Lt Mellersh/Flt Lt Stanley of FIU got a Ju 88 destroyed in the Berlin area 11-12 Apr 45. Sqn Ldr Kipp/Flt Lt Oldham got a Ju 88 & Bf 410 destroyed and Ju 88 dam on an airfield east of Munich (Kirchheim). 406 Sqn apparently got 3 on the ground at Koeniggraz. However, 239 Sqn claimed a He 111 destroyed the night before at Schoenfeld

Re: British Night Fighter Claim on April 11./12 1945

I have sketchy details of a number of claims on 11/12. 04.45. No sign of an He111, but 406 Sqn are the best bet so far

406 Sqn Mosquito

He177 Dam (Gnd) Königgraz
He177
Dam (Gnd) Königgraz
He177 Dam (Gnd) Königgraz
E/a Dam Ruzyne

FIDS Mosquito

Ju88 Des 20 m NW of Berlin F/L F R L Mellersh

422 NFS P-61 Black Widow

Ju52 Des 1Lt E DAxtell/1Lt C H Morrison
Ju52 Des 1Lt F E Burnett/ F/O C E Brandt
Ju52 Des Capt R O Elmore/ 2Lt L F Mapes
Ju52 Des 1Lt E E Merriman/ 2Lt W Dow
Ju88 Des Capt T J Spelis /1Lt E Eleftherion

The National Archives site lists claims by F/L ARW Lasser and 1Lt SW Filkasky of 406 Sqn (may be two pilots or a pilot and his nav, I have not checked). Also S/L M J Stanley and F/L F R L Mellersh of FIDS (again may be two pilots or a pilot and his nav)

If you go to the National Archives web site you can down load combat reports for the RAF crews (£3.50 a piece)

Regards

Martin

Re: British Night Fighter Claim on April 11./12 1945

Sorry to be late Michal. A 406 Squadron crew (P/O D.J. McConnell and F/L M. Kazakoff, both RCAF) claimed a UEA damaged at Jocksdorf, about 30km from Welzow: "Time 2342 - e/a was landing and was attacked just before it touched down. Strikes were seen all along the fuselage, but Mosquito had to pull up and contact was lost."

AIR 50/139 gives date as 10/11 though.
