Junkers Ju 52 Kennzeichen Question.

In researching an 1./LG 1 Flugbuch there are some entries concerning Junkers Ju 52 missions which I would appreciate some help with determining the units which the Ju 52 aircraft belonged to.

26-09-40. Überlandflug, Orleans to Krefeld. 'JG+XL'. (Beiβwenger).

11-06-41. Überlandflug. Eleusis to Belgrade. 'KG+RQ'. (Flg Kpt. Harder).

If anyone can identify the respective units from the Kennzeichen I will be very grateful indeed. Many thanks.

Regards Richard.

Re: Junkers Ju 52 Kennzeichen Question.

These KZ are STKZ, so some kind of own "name" for the plane, but both are wrong or misread, this type of code couldn't begin by J, nd the second one hv to be KG+FQ,
...

Re: Junkers Ju 52 Kennzeichen Question.

J9+XL should read J9+XL, which was a former aircraft of TGr 186 and operated during 1940 by Transportstaffel/IV.Fliegerkorps.

Rémi, Gerhard, thank you both very much indeed for your replies, and I am very pleased that I can now attach the Ju 52 'JG+XL' to Transportstaffel/IV.Fliegerkorps.

I have attached a cropped scan of the Flugbuch page and although I may have read the codes wrong however, they do look like 'JG+XL' and 'KG+RQ' to my eyes although, I may well now be proved wrong!

If anyone can identify the unit to which 'KG+RQ' belonged I will be again very grateful indeed. Many thanks.

Regards Richard.

Re: Junkers Ju 52 Kennzeichen Question.

Richard

Gerhard is spot on, 100% J9+XL. Agree that the 9 looks quite a bit like a lower case g but no, it is the digit 9

However KG+RQ is to me more KG+RO.
Reason some persons use an O with a slash is to make sure no one reads it as a 0 (zero)

Cheers
Stig

Re: Junkers Ju 52 Kennzeichen Question.

KG+Rx is a serie attributed to Bf110G, people could read K6+ , look at some other codes with 6 in the log to cfm...

Gents, thank you both for that. My mistake on my last post, yes it it is indeed 'J9+XL' (a former aircraft of TGr 186 and operated during 1940 by Transportstaffel/IV.Fliegerkorps).

After looking at other entries in the Flugbuch, I think Rémi that you may well be right and it is indeed a '6', meaning a code of 'K6+RO'.

However, 'K6' would mean the aircraft was assigned to Küstenfliegergruppe 306 and 406, 1./Kü.Fl.Gr. 906, which to my knowledge did not operate with Ju 52 aircraft?

Or have I missed something again?

Thank you again for your help.

Regards Richard.
