Photo mission over Norway May 6 1944. 544 Sqn ORB?

Some friends are helping out building models for the museum at the Vara gun battery outside Kristiansand. They'd like to build the Mosquito that did a photo recce mission on May 6 1944.
Does anyone have access to the 544 Sqn ORB in order to help out finding the serial of the aircraft?

Regards
Kyrre

Hello Kyrre

There appear to be two sorties that cover the area you refer to for 6 May 1944, so have listed both in case, but as you are working from prints you should be able to decide which is the one your after.

106W/264
Mosquito IX MM242, F/L D. Adcock and F/O D. South

106W/266
Mosquito IX MM246, F/L F.I. Dodd and F/S E. Hill

The ORB (AIR 27/2028) has no listings for individual letter codes other than the a/c serials. Seems strange answering this query from Guernsey, which is as you will no doubt know housed Batterie Mirus, named after a fellow officer who died at the same time as Vara. Its a small world!

Kind regards
Pierre

Instead of the smily face it should read AIR 27/2028.

Well that is just brilliant! Many thanks for the help.

As for squadron code letters at this point in time I'm quite sure 544 didn't use any. When 1 PRU in '42 went into the various 500-series PR-squadrons they got rid of the LY- code and ended up with just the serials.

PR IX it is then. Two stage Merlins needed.

Regards,
Kyrre

Not really my project, though I do have one PR.IV on the list. The IPMS'ers in Kristiansand needed some help and of course I jumped to it and offered to help by exploiting the historians on other forums.

I passed the information on, with your name credited, Pierre, and they appreciated the info immensely.
