Code name 'Rona'
Hi,
On April 7th 1940, the 218 ORB mentions the satellite and dummy airfield of 'Rona'. Can anyone expand on this for me please ? TIA Steve

Re: Code name 'Rona'
Rona a small island west of the Orkney's.
218 Sqn Bases (ref :RAF Bomber Squadrons of the RAF, Macdonald ). Sept 1939 - May 1940 Auberive-Sur-Suippes, France. With Detachments at Perpignan/La Salanque in February 1940 and April 1940. Moscow Ferms, France May 1940 St. Lucien Ferms, France May 1940 Nantes, France May - June 1940. So the squadron moved from mid France to the very south then to the mid west of France, in the time frame you research. Hope this helps Last edited by Alex Smart; 13th October 2019 at 21:26. |

Re: Code name 'Rona'
Have just seen the post on RAF Commands Forum, which gives a similar name, have you any idea if perhaps that place is in the Perpignan/La Salanque area ?
As is said the Decoy names at that time would most likely have been in the UK. I would expect that across the channel the place names would most likely have been used ? Alex |
