1943 Crash in Somme.
Hello,
Found in the local archives : On January 17th, 1943, at about 9:00 pm, a German plane crashed on the ground in a pasture on the territory of FRETTECUISSE. The plane caught fire, it is completely destroyed, it seems be about a bomber. The occupants died carbonized. Near Oisemont (40km O. Amiens) March 22nd, 1943 a German bomber is shoot down on the territory of EQUENNES, crew members are safe thanks to the intervention of a bucheron, which with its axe made a hole in the cabin on fire. Near Poix (30km S.O. Amiens) One can give me precision (planes, crews...) of these two accidents. Thank you for your help. cordially. |

Re: 1943 Crash in Somme.
On 17-1-43 a Ju88 of 3/KG6 crew of Hpt. Gunther Erbs were all killed in a crash described as 20 km NNW (northnorthwest) of Poix. This would appear to be about 30-40km West of Amiens could this be the one you are looking for.

Re: 1943 Crash in Somme.
Yes ! you are genius ! “Wir flogen gen Westen”, I must find this book... Many thanks for the informations.
And for 22/03/1943 nothing? This story has caused a storm in this village. The poor man who helped the airmen received 20.000F ... at the end of the war, he had a lot of problems. |

Re: 1943 Crash in Somme.
The only one I could find for the 22-3-43 was a Do217E-4 of II/KG40 w.n. 4391 which was 100% destroyed following a crash landing. There were no crew names as none of them were injured but the location is given as FL.Pl. Amiens, so I take it this one crashed on or very near the airfield,
