III./KG.26 loss 27/28 July 1942

Hello,
On 27/28 July 1942 Ju88A-4 140239 of 7./KG.26 was lost. The pilot was Uffz R. Spinnler. But who were the other crewmembers?

Hello Stig,

Thanks for the information!
Desamari, Spinnler and Basel are buried at the German cemetery in Ysselstein. However I can't find Uffz Hans Vogt on the Volksbund site. Did he survive?
I thought Spinner was the pilot but Desamari outranks him. Was he the pilot?

Re: III./KG.26 loss 27/28 July 1942

Hi Dennis

According to the book, all four crew members were killed

The book does not present any crew position as such, which is a drawback, but I believe the general idea at the time of writing was to show the first individual as pilot in command. However loking back on earlier losses in the book it looks like the author lists the commander of the aircraft first, which suggests something else. Bottom line is that I cannot answer that question. However by mid 1942 I believe Luftwaffe had realised the folly of having the observer outranking the pilot and changed all this, but I think others on this forum are far mor capable to answer this....

Cheers
Stig

Hello Frans,

Thank you for that!
Could you quote the source for this information. I have been unable to find a Haarlemmerstraat in Oegstgeest. There is however a Haarlemmerstraatweg.

Re: III./KG.26 loss 27/28 July 1942

Hello Dennis,

The Ju88 crashed at Zwarte Pad (volkstuintjes) in municipal Leiden at 03.55 hours (local time) in the night of 27 - 28 July 1942. This is near the former fireworks Kat at the Haarlemmerweg/Leiden. All this is very close to municipal Oegstgeest.

Initially of the crew one was killed and three were badly wounded and were taken to Academisch Ziekenhuis at Leiden; here two more members died soon.

Of the crew Lt Kurt Günther Desamari, Uffz Rudolf Spinnler and Uffz Ehrenfried Basel initially buried at Groene Kerkje in Oegstgeest on 31 July 1942. After the war all reburied at Ysselsteyn/Limburg.

Uffz Hans-Herbert Vogt survived the crash; he was badbly wounded. On 24 May 1944 he died during a USA bombraid on Beaumont airfield. At that time he was Bordmechanist at Transport- and Verbindungsstaffel of Generalkommando IX. Fliegerkorps.

Best wishes,
Rob

Hello Jim,
Thank you for the official loss report. I wonder what the mean by Entwijk. I don´t think it is a topographical name.
Hello Rob,
This makes more sence.
Thank you both,
Dennis
