Heinrich Ehrler

Good evening Gentlemen,

is it true that Heinrich Ehrler scored his first kill in May 1940 ?
http://luftwaffe.cz/ehrler.html
If yes, which day ?

Cheers,

His first kill was:

2.9.41/1730 2./JG 77 Lt. Heinrich Ehrler Beaufort I SW of Stavanger Probably 22 sqn. Only one loss: AW218/OA-W of Sgt. Duncan McTavish and crew all KIA (there was also a claim by Hptm. Hans-Christian Schaefer so already Ehrler was overclaiming....)

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

Nick, what was the source of the info re the kill of 2/9/41? Neither Ciel de Gloire nor Luftwaffe.cz list a kill on this date in the total of 208.

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

Peter,

Both Tony Wood's list and Mathews & Foreman list this one as the first that can be found.

If you look on luftwaffe.cz you can see the credits of who contributed and see my name mentioned along with my friend Erich Brown. We made our contributions a good twenty or so years ago, so good site that it is, I am first to confess that it is very much out of date in some aspects. It's still lovely to see people making use of it though

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

OK, thanks.

Pardon my ignorance (my main interest and expense is in modelling) but I assume Tony Wood and Mathews & Foreman are books? If so, can you please tell me the titles?

Peter

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

Peter,

Tony Wood = the guy who looked at the Bundesarchiv Microfilms containing the German victory claims and published them online in the late 90s early 2000s

They are now viewable here:

http://aces.safarikovi.org/luftwaffe...y.credits.html

Mathews and Foreman are indeed authors. This is the series of books I was referring to. They are also sourced from the Microfilms:

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

Thanks Nick. The Wood info looks the same as what I picked up from the 'net back in 2012, when I first started dabbling in some research. Can't recall the source.
Interestingly, the very first entry differs - my info has Georg Meyer 2/1/40 2./JG51 Morane at 12:10, no location. I scanned through a heap more and they all match ......

Around US$300 for the set ...... ouch.

Michel - what is your source?

Cheers
Peter

Re: Heinrich Ehrler

Hello Peter,

in Tony Wood's list you can find this entry twice. Compare 02.01.40 and 03.03.40 (Hptm Georg Meyer Abschuß 1).

In JFV Vol 2 page 276 is listed:
03.03.40 2./JG 51 Hptm Georg Meyer Morane Ms 406 (1.) 12.10 Bitsch B (= confirmed).

Regards
Leo
