87 Squadron RAF

I Have a log book of a chap who was a sgt pilot flying with 87 Sqaudron from August 1941, however for some reason in November 1941 he is moved away from the squadron to SHQ Uxbridge and is given the rank AC2 G/D, before being moved to SHQ Lough Erne where he eventually has the rank LAC/GC.

Does anybody have any idea why this may have happened? I presume G/D might mean ground duties, however what does GC mean?

Any help would be great.

Johnnie
