Re: Do 217-E-4 werknr 4314

His name was Anton Ries as written by Balke. The same writing is recorded for a crash on 19.08.42 with 5./KG 2.

i am inclined to believe you all ...
but then why are all these sources wrong!?

Quote:
As with all Luftwaffe losses in Yorkshire I would direct anyone with an interest to Bill Norman's book "Broken Eagles". There is also a good account of this incident in Paul Bright's exceptional book "Air War over East Yorkshire in World War II".

Pilot - Uffz Anton Reis. PoW.
Observer - Obgfr Horst Kuster. PoW.
Wireless Operator - Uffz Arno Salz. PoW.
Mechanic - Uffz Alfred Muschiol. PoW.

Re: Do 217-E-4 werknr 4314

A pretty good reason Ghost is that you are quoting second hand sources while our friends Gerhard and Leo are quoting or know first hand sources.

You even quote a third hand source here, the aviation safety net, which can't even quote a second hand source correct, namely Ulf Balke.

Also Ulf Balke has always struck me as a very serious researcher, so quoting him directly is also pretty safe to do.

When using second or third hand sources the risk for faults increase and without knowing from where your quoted sources has taken their details I am inclined to believe far more in Chris, Gerhard and Leo.

Cheers
Stig
