Werner Thierfelder
Hello,
did Werner Thierfelder ever score in something else than a Messerschmitt Bf 110 ? Have a nice afternoon, Michael |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Hi Michael
This pilot is just about as obscure as they get. All Ernst Obermaier could offer was(by memory) twenty-two victories. Doesn't even enlighten us as to which front these were claimed on........though should be in the West. I would not even consider twenty-two victories as accurate. Hopefully somebody might show some evidence about him. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Dear Johannes,
as you may have guessed, the epicentre of my humble knowledge is my well-tended collection of OSPREY titles: John Weal in his "Messerschmitt Bf 110 Zerstörer Aces of World War 2" (1999) mentions Thierfelder only twice: p78: "...On 10 October II./ZG 26's Oberleutnant Werner Thierfelder had received the Knight's Cross when his score stood at 14..." p54/101: "...his final score was 27, the majority of which had been claimed on the Eastern Front, as were 41 additional aircraft destroyed on the ground." Morgan and Weal's "German Jet Aces of World War 2" (1998) doesn't mention Thierfelder's score. Michael |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Dear Michael
I would consider Obermaier's opinion on any pilot with some hope of being accurate. Others usually just copy anything before when confronted with no proven information. By memory I seem to remember a resent TOCH reference to him, i.e his rudder and seven claims, but here again that's assuming the rudder was his in the first place. Regards Johannes |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Hello Johannes,
most books and www sources seem to offer 27 kills, however without breakdown :-( Those fluent in Portuguese might enjoy this one: http://www.luftwaffe39-45.historia.n...hierfelder.htm Cheers, Michael |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
To february 1942, he had 19 victories, as shown on his tail of 3U+HP W.Nr.4054/

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Hi
If the tail of his Bf110 shows nineteen claims, and assuming this is his aircraft(and there are not many alterative pilots) and the date is correct, then this is a most useful piece of information. Don't suppose the rudder photo is of good enough quality to actually read the victory bars? Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
Cool photo, thanks for posting, Evgeny !
Not many daylight 110's were ever adorned with 19 victory bars... ...I know only of Hans-Joachim Jabs' ZG76 machine. Have a nice weekend, Michael |

Re: Werner Thierfelder
It seems only 4 of his kills can be confirmed. Is it possible that the kill markings on the a/c in question include his OTG kills to that date?
