Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Gentlemen,
Messerschmitt build a rather few number of Bf 109 G-10 (with Werknummern 130xxx) between 11/1944 and 01/1945. Were these a/c equipped with an engine mounted MG 151/20 or with the Mk 108, as the K-4? I have already checked several alliied crash and intelligence reports, but there were only a very few G-10 of this manufacturer lost over enemy territory - and none of the known reports mentions the type of installed weapons. Sure you don't mean the MK103?

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Franck, have to agree with Kutscha... centerline MK 108 was the standard mount for the K-4.
Surely you meant something else.

Indeed Ferdinando!
I missed the word "centerline". Sorry Heuser. I remove the post above. Nothing to do here. Regards, Franck. |

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Hello Heuser,
Bf109 from Werknummernblock 130.xxx were of the Baureihe Bf109 G-10, so all of them had a 2cm MG 151 mounted. The same is for G-10/R6 and G-10/R2. Only Baureihe Bf 109 G-10/U4 had the central MK 108. HTH Carl

Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Hello Heuser
It is my understanding that only Bf 109 G-10/U4 fighters made by WNF had the MK 108. The same factory was the sole manufacturer of the similarly-armed Bf 109 G-6/U4 and G-14/U4. The Bf 109 K-4 had the 30-mm cannon as standard as you mentioned. I hope this helps. Horrido! Leo |

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Hello everyone,
I like this discussion of the centerline engine weapons installed in Messerschmitt-built Bf109G-10s from the WNr. 130XXX series. I have fifty-two of these aircraft in my database file. Interestingly, only one entry mentions the engine weapon installed, that being: Bf109G-10 WNr. 130297, 5+ yellow, flown by Fw. Horst Petzschler to Bultofa, Sweden on 04 May 1945, which was fitted with the to-be-expected MG151(20mm) weapon. Also, as mentioned before, none of the aircraft in my files were documented in any of the Allied Crashed Enemy Aircraft (CEA) or similar reports. Steve Sheflin |

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Dear all,
thank you very much for your replies! I know about the Mk 108 in the G-10 produced by WNF - but I wondered if MTT possibly adopted this gun for their G-10s, as the K-4 with the same weapon was already in production in the MTT-factories. I never came across a regarding document, this was the reason for my question... Regards, Heuser |

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
Hello Gentlemen,
I would like to ask if it is known to which units the very rare Mtt produced Bf109G-10s (Werknummernblock 130 xxx) were allocated. Based on pictures and losses JG3, JG4, JG27, JG51, EJG1, KG(J)6 and NJG11 can be identified as having some of these Bf109G-10s. Were there any other fighter or training units or maybe even reconnaissance units equipped with this version? Many thanks in advance Best regards Michael |

Re: Bf 109 G-10 130xxx
I have copies of the Beitrag zur Beschaffungsmeldung (Monthly procurement reporting) for Sept., Oct., Nov.44, and Jan. 45. Also Flugzeug-Verteilung (Aircraft distribution) for most of those months. The first document is quite detailed and provides procurement of Neubau aircraft by sub-type and factory. G-10 output for Mtt'R is as follows Oct-0, Nov-108 Jan-3. The only G-10 R6 production during that period came from Erla.
The Aircraft Distribution report is not as detailed, so it is not possible to trace destinations for various sub-types. Sometimes specific units are mentioned, but that is the exception. It does seem that Bf 109 Aufklärer versions are definitely tracked separate from fighter versions. If these documents are correct, it seems likely that Mtt'R never produced any G-10 R6. It also seems unlikely that type would have been distributed to other than a fighter unit. It surely would be nice to have a copy of Dec.44. Much of my material comes from USNA College Park microfilm. There is another archive copy, either from UK or France that has a number of pages I am missing, but not Dec.44 ArtieBob |
