Thank you very much indeed for your continued efforts with this.
This continues to be an excellent and invaluable research resource, and a great deal of credit needs to go to Doug and Larry for their continued efforts on getting this on-line for all to use. Regards Richard. |

It's not something I use often, but I applaud the authors for making their research available to others, and for continuing to update it.

Re: 2021 edition Officer Careers
All,
Many thanks to all for your kind and thoughtful comments. Our annual additions to Lw.OCS will from now on become fewer and fewer as Doug and I have just about reached the bottom of the barrel of readily obtainable material. The really BIG repository of Luftwaffe officer career data, namely the Luftwaffenpersonalamt Karteikarten last known to be held at BA-MA Freiburg, generally remains unavailable to researchers due to German privacy laws that went into effect in 1988. Should that collection ever be opened up to historians and researchers, then it would be possible to add the remaining 40.000 to 50,000 names and careers of those officers we do not yet have. Thanks again, Larry & Doug |

Re: 2021 edition Officer Careers
Larry
The Karteikarten are available to researchers. Regrettably, they are not searchable using Invenio. I've had a paid researcher copy some for me. I simply provided a list of names and DOBs and he passed these to the archivist in charge of this holding who then produced what he had for the names I was after. I am also aware of researchers who have directly requested cards for their personal visits and been provided with them. Naturally, it would be far better if they could simply scan them all but I'm guessing that won't happen for a very long time. It would be helpful as a first step for them to index them. Steve |
