Rottler will become famous soon enough
Re: Sütterlin

Hello Rudi,

I cannot decipher the shorthand symbols, but the text is: Unser erster Verwundeter! / Our first wounded man!

Re: Sütterlin

Hello Rudi,

Look like a date to me: 12.7.40. Third official Battle of Britain day.

Below that could be: ich 2e Links

Regards, Thomas

Post Re: Sütterlin

hello rudi,
hello everyone,

so I read 12.1.40 on the date!?
there should probably be a place in front of it?
unfortunately illegible ....

what is the context of the picture?
or can we also see the front?

this often helps, especially with less text ....

thank you

best regards
ghost

Sütterlin - Isla 12.1.40 ?

Hard to read except for the first line:

Possibly: Isly (the location of an airfield, or some other place)
After this word: 12.1.40,
so not Battle of Britain yet (official start on July 10, 1940).
(I am NOT an expert at Sütterlin)

Here is the front of the photo. Not much help to determine the place where it was taken I'm afraid.

Re: Sütterlin

I'd think the first and second row are not in Sütterlin but in Stenografie written ...

Wounded hands

No wonder it's hard to read if he wrote this with both hands heavily bandaged, probably after they were burned in a shot-down aircraft. (See photograph above)

PS: to me it doesn't look like shorthand. Perhaps poor handwriting (which is not rare at all). The 2nd and 3rd lines both end with an exclamation mark !
