NJG Claim 2 March 1943
Could someone help me with the claims from this day in march 1943? Specific a Lancaster III shot down over Holland on 2 March 1943.
I believe it should be in the Luftwaffe Night Fighter Combat Claims book, but I don't have it. I hope someone could help me, as I totally forgot the date and I would like to write a little piece on my website about this crash today. Thanks! |

Re: NJG Claim 2 March 1943
Five Lancasters, five Halifaxes and two Stirlings were claimed 1-2 Mar 43 and of those, three Lancasters, three Halifaxes and both Stirlings were claimed after midnight. A location for the crash might help you further as the only crash locations I have after midnight are Voorst (Halifax), Zuidloo (Halifax), 20 km NW Vlieland (sea-Lancaster), Markelo ( Halifax), Nidderkerk (Lancaster), Roordahuisum (Stirling), St Martensdijk (Stirling), 40 km W.Texel (sea-Halifax)

Re: NJG Claim 2 March 1943
Hello RedCap50,
Not being a productive author myself, it is not my habbit to criticize other publications but there is a good reason to temper the expectations of Foreman's Night Fighter Claim book. Lots of claims were taken from a notorious German list, made by the late Emil Nonnenmacher. He once included many fake claims as a sort of copyright security measure. The results were that many air war historians refer to German nightfighter claims which were never made in reality. Several of these claims were later included in the famous RAF Bomber Command losses volumes of William Chorley. You will not be surprised that I use the BCL volumes frequently but I also avoid carefully to use the references to German nightfighter claims. Best regards, Marcel
