Bü 131 with unknown emblem

A photo of a Bü 131 with an emblem is at eBay here. A close-up of the emblem shows a very distinctive shape, but I cannot make any sense of the interior.

The seller claims that this is the ‘Hentschel’ coat of arms. I assume that this is meant to be Henschel rather than the Hentschel clock maker (although quite surprisingly there are some superficial similarities between this emblem and that of the clock maker!!). The seller also identified a Heinkel He 72 with a Luftdienst emblem as a ‘Hentschel’ and an open cockpit tandem seat Klemm Kl 35 as a Bf 108. Therefore I have little faith in the seller's information.

Another photo of several Focke Wulf Fw 44s with the same emblem is at eBay here.

Re: Bü 131 with unknown emblem

Hi Ian

This is the emblem ob A/B 12 (Königsberg/Neumark).
You can find a picture of these emblem in book of Carlsen/Meyer "Die Flugzeugführer-Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe part II, page 169".

best wishes
JoMe

Re: Bü 131 with unknown emblem

Many thanks for the answer. I haven’t got the source, so still no idea of what the emblem is actually showing, but at least I have a solution.

Happy New Year

Re: Bü 131 with unknown emblem

Here is a photo of the emblem on page 169 of the source quoted, quickly taken with my iPhone:

Source: "Die Flugzeugefuhrer-Ausbildung der Deutchen Luftwaffe 1935-45 - Band I" by Carlsen & Meyer [VDM, 1998]

Note that this appears to be slightly different than the versions applied to the Bu131 in the eBay link and the Bi181's in the book... but you get a good idea nonetheless...

Cheers
Pete

Re: Bü 131 with unknown emblem

Many thanks for the photo. I had a look at the main bases for FFS AB 12 to try to locate the Medieval gate tower shown in the emblem. These locations did not seem to use such a tower in their own coat of arms. Königsberg and Prenzlau both have medieval structures which could be the source for the emblem
