Where are these areas?
Hi!
I'm working on the daily reports of some US units in the south of France in 1944. Some areas are described in code and i fail to find them. T2070 T2556 G-6 Aire Crape (sic) T0477 N9019 T0524 Can you help me to identify these areas ? Thanx |

Re: Where are these areas?
Thank you Nick.
But i think something is wrong with my research. The areas given using the website "echo delta.net" don't match with the area of combats. For an exemple: area T0524 is for a combat describe as : "Lt Littlewood (316th fighter sqn) shot down a Me 109 (16h10), august 29th 1944." The website aera translator gives something near "Les Chanoines" airbase ... So, i think there was no Luftwaffe action over this place this day. The combat front is 80 km south of Lyon. The USAF document I have read says that the area T0524 is north west of Lyon. Maybe there is another coded tracking system? |

Re: Where are these areas?
Are you using the right grid? It looks like you may need to try France Lambert Zone 3 rather than Zone 2.
P.S. There was definitely no Luftwaffe action in the area of Les Chanoines on 29 August, everything that could fly had left a week or more earlier. I've written about 29 August action on my website: http://www.ghostbombers.com/recon/109/Kaatsch/kaatsch4.html and made a map as well: http://www.ghostbombers.com/recon/10...kaatscha1.html If you have any more about the combats in my web article I'd be really interested to hear about it. |

Re: Where are these areas?
Nick, don't you have that "backwards". On the map on the link you gave, you have:
Item B Ofw. Beller shot down August 29. It appears that the location was NNE of Lyon. Using Lambert Zone 2, with wT0524 gives (via the co-ordinate translator) a location that seems a good match. Last edited by RSwank; 3rd September 2015 at 19:10. |

Re: Where are these areas?
You're right.
T2070 T2556 T0477 N9019 -> Lambert 3 T0524 -> Lambert 2 @Nick: When I know more about the events that occurred in these areas, I will tell you. Thank you. |
