He219 W. Nr. xxx253 - Hagenow Mecklenburg - Thoughts and Info?

Hey guys,

Been trying to ID an He219 wreck found near Hagenow Mecklenburg

Though no data plates have been found, there have been many parts with hand painted serial numbers.

One set of numbers has come up empty...but another set (found painted on a main access hatch is "253"...which most likely could mean 190253?

Any thoughts or info?

TIA

Mike

This sounds interesting - but "190253" is unfortunately not a WNr associated with the He-219 series.
AFAIK, no He-219 had a Wnr ending with ...253.

Do you have any more info and/or pictures of the parts found?

I know 100% this was the wreck location...but that is about it.

Other parts have the hand-written number "81" and "4381".

These numbers are written on numerous inspection hatches...which was common. This basically ID"d the hatch to a specific aircraft.

This hatch below is the large dorsal hatch, located right at the wing root. This is one of the hatches that has the "81".

I do not know what the "X14" means.

You do mean "83", right?

I'm not certain this has any connection to the W.Nr of the aircraft, though, but it is a possibility. AFAIK there are (were) only two He219s with W.Nr. ending with ...83:

- 190183 : this was a Schwechat-built He219 A-0 (Stammkennzeichen: GU+BP)
- 310183 : this was a Rostock-built He219 A-7 (unknown Stammkennzeichen)

Unfortunately the ultimate fate of both these machines are unknown to me.

Re: He219 W. Nr. xxx253 - Hagenow Mecklenburg - Thoughts and Info?

Sorry...yes "83"

100% this is related to the aircraft werk number.

it was common practice to write either the full werk, or the partial werk on the inside of inspection hatches. This was in-case the hatch was removed fully during maintenance.

Though it was not common on Messerschmitt-built aircraft, it was common practice by Junkers and Heinkel.

That said...it "could" be in reference to the specific part number. For example, a Focke-Wulf wreck that was discovered last year had a "13" written on the inside of the left side leading edge wing MG cover. The only correlation that had, was that the full Fw190 part number of that specific hatch, ended with a "13".

If there was an He219 parts list around, one could verify to see if both of these hatches had a part number that ended in an 83.

That would then bring us back to the other number that was written..."253". Which leads us nowhere...

Any thoughts on the "X14"? Originally written in heavy black paint, it seems to be quite important...especially on the outside of the hatch...
