DB Serial Numbers

Dear Friends.
On october 2015 we recovery a Me109 from the underground.
In that location crashed two 109, one in july 44 77Jadg and another on 19 april 45 2 gr. caccia ANR .
We are not shure wich 109 could be.
At the moment we have just the serial number of DB engine

9 605 311 002 GH

Can you help us to resolve this doubt ?

Thank You
Diego Vezzoli

Re: DB Serial Numbers

Unless I am wrong but, I am afraid Diego, this is not the s/n of engine. Even with this number, you may not track down the WNr. of this particular Bf 109. WNr.'s of engine and 'airframe' are rarely matched in NVM.
Best way are the local reports to narrow the date of fall.

Re: DB Serial Numbers

Hello Diego,

According to the numbers you have found the left cylinder block of the DB605. After you clean it look for large numbers painted on the side of the cylinder block in yellow or white paint. Even better if you are able to find the main dataplate.

best regards,
Tomislav

Re: DB Serial Numbers

Diego,

What ClinA-78 states is so true, very little chance of having an engine WrkNr matched to an airframe. I've done some research on this without any success. The number you posted in the initial thread is the engine block casting number. Steve Shelfin can provide more info on that.

I copied a DB605 image from the web (I think this DB is in a UK museum). You can clearly see the number on the block as Tomislav describes, circled in Red.

I have overlaid two other ovals, a yellow one where the main engine data plate is usually found, and a green oval, where the engine WrkNr could be stamped into the block.

Good luck.

Tony

Re: DB Serial Numbers

I also have a DB 605, and don't know its origin. It was found in the river Danube near Dunaföldvár.

Re: DB Serial Numbers

I have known such a story :
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...+found+Belgium

Bf 110 G still (and will remain?) unknown despite a beautiful engine with a lot of markings...
