VVS raid on Karankut/Rayzendorf on 2 March 1944
In the morning of 2 March 1944, Yaks of 3.IAK raided Karankut aerodrome in Crimea. Three Bf 109s and a Ju 87 were claimed in the air by 812.IAP, one more Bf 109 by the CO of 3.IAK, while the initial claim for four flamed on the ground (2 Ju 87s, 1 He 111, 1 Ju 88) has been extended to 11 based on later reconnaissance. Strangely, there is no mention of any Fw 190s. The air raid and subsequent dogfight in which he shot down Yak 9 (one machine of 291.IAP was indeed lost) were described by Hermann Büchner in 'Stormbird' on page 84. Büchner, at the time with 6./SG 2, mentions that he barely got airborne amidst of burning planes which were caught next to the runway whilst being prepared for take-off. What were the German losses in this raid?
