Loss of Bf110 from ZG 76 in Norway december 1940

I found a notice about a crashed Bf 110 from ZG 76 (most probably a Stab or III. gruppe machine) that crashed in Norway around 18th december 1940, the crew were saved. Have anyone additional information (Werknr./codes) to this plane?

Re: Loss of Bf110 from ZG 76 in Norway december 1940

Hei Tormod

I have a loss for Geschwaderstab ZG76 on 18th Dec 1940 near Narvik/Nordland. However this turn out to be a Fw 58 plane (WNr. 0078). The reason was probably lack of fuel.

Greetings from Norway

Knut

Heisann Knut,

thanks for the reply, but this Bf110 went down somewhere between Langesund - Kragerö.

Hello Chris,

yes I have seen the same accident at Luftwaffe.no, but I don't think there is a relevance between those two accidents. Even as the Germans were notoriously bad at placing the accidents, the dates does not match.

Tormod, just a thought the QMs returns has as Chris said collision in the air over Kjevik - 'H' III/ZG76 Bf110D 3162 Ff Uffz Heinz Horstmann killed, no mention of a second aircraft. However the Luftwaffe in Norway site has the same collision with Ff Ofw Groening and B Ogef Hahn safe ? If this is the second aircraft ( and not two other crewmen from 3162) could it have flown off been abandoned and crashed Langesund-Kragero (at least 50 miles from Kjevik) with wreckage not found untill the 18th. QM's returns does not seem to have anything for the 18th. for III/ZG76 or any other Bf110.

Hello Brian,
well I'm not sure about it. Here is the notice made by the local army unit in the area:

"Deutsches Flugzeug vom Zerstörergeschwader 76
am 18.12.40 17:38 Uhr Nähe Kragerö notgelandet. Flugzeug verloren, Besetzung gerettet".

Tormod, might have the answer the Stab/ZG26 Fw58 58076 on the 18th Dec is shown on QMs returns as emergency landing on the ses by Larvik due to fuel problems no crew losses. This would link to your report of emergency landing, aircraft lost, crew rescued,
