History of B-29 '224612
Presumably this was a B-29 and not a B-50?
Which unit flew it?

Re: History of B-29 '224612
Should correspond to B-29-40BW
According to Robert Mann it was delivered to USAAF 31 July 1944 and handed over to 236 Base Unit. Named Klondyke Kutey (his spelling) and coded 12 It was SOC 11 Sep 1950 when it was reclaimed at Pyote Unfortunately Mann's book leaves a lot more to ask for and his reading of the type's IARC is very rudimentary. Possibly (if the aircraft WAS assigned to a front line unit) it would mean going through the book page-by-page. On the other hand if it stayed in the US all its life, you will not find anything further in his book. Cheers Stig |

Re: History of B-29 '224612
From an online book by John M. Campbell:
KLONDIKE KUTEY-, 42-24612, #12. Assigned to the 236th BIU, operating out of Alaska, their main role there was more of a test role. Weather endurance, and Arctic Climate studies, she saw duty at the Amarillo Army Airfield, but was reclaimed at Tinker where she was involved with a collision with a B-17G while taxiing. She was sent to Pyote Air Base on 09/11/50. (via B. Snodgrass) Regards, Leendert |
