"Royal Air Force at War" double-DVD

Has anyone seen this DVD of over 6 hrs in length and produced in association with the Imperial War Museum? It is supposed to to have plenty of high quality and never seen before footage.

Re: "Royal Air Force at War" double-DVD

I've got a copy it is based upon RAF newsreels for in service distribution, according to the box so-called GENS and GAFS.

The material is varied, like you would expect from such a source. Ranging from the mondane to some spectactular combat footage (but don't expect too much of the latter).

One drawback is the menu, which does not allow for easy reel skipping.

There is a bonus Ditching Without Hedging, a training movie on ditching, with a nice Imperial touch (Englishman, Canadian and Scotsman and some other stereo types)!

Thanks! How well is the DVD transfer done? When these kinda docs were made on VHS, the quality of the copy (not of the original footage) was sometimes appalling with very few exceptions like Command Vision´s 6 tapes on Axis and Allien fighters, bombers and armour.

Where did you purchase yours from?

Well as far as I can judge the quality is good, at least the B&W footage does not show the mpeg artifacts you'll get from transferred low quality analog video.

The image is overall clear and dicated by the quality of the original print, not the transfer.

I'd regard this DVD as good value for money if you are interested in the RAF, especially because it is not the usual mini documentary rehashing the same old same old. Since only original reels with their commentary are used the product gets 10/10 for atmosphere.
