"Flieger" Wolfgang Kosse (Sturmstaffel 1)

On 30 November 1943, Hauptmann Wolfgang Kosse (Staka 1./JG 5) was relieved of his command, demoted to Flieger and sentenced to 9 months of imprisonment (that he avoided in applying for Sturmstaffel 1).
He is said to have made an unauthorised flight which ended up in the loss of the aircraft.

Has anyone more details on this story?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Re: "Flieger" Wolfgang Kosse (Sturmstaffel 1)

He was promoted to Hauptmann on 01.04.1943. Hptm. Kosse was demoted on 30.11.1943 and also sentenced to 9 months in jail. He was for 3.5 months in Untersuchungshaft. The remainder of his sentence was "delayed"as he went to Sturmstaffel for Frontbewaehrung. His sentence was revoked on 8 Oktober 1944 "wegen hervorragender Bewährung durch Tapferkeit vor dem Feinde in einer Sturmjagdgruppe." Not sure what it exactly was what he did but it seems that he used his rank to force somebody to make a false statement under oath....

Thanks John.

Do you think it is related to his crash-landing?

Re: "Flieger" Wolfgang Kosse (Sturmstaffel 1)

It is not mentioned in his personnel file. So what he exactly did is not in the file. One option might be that the sentence is in Kriegsgerichts-files at the BA/MA but that might not be easy to get access to.

regards,

John
