IV Gruppe KG 30 loss on 31 Jan 1941

Good night to all members.

Could someone inform me the codes, werknummer and crew names of the Ju 88 lost on the 31 January 1941 at LUDWIGLUST ?

Probably a IV/KG 30 machine on a training flight....There may be more than one machine involved, but am not sure.

OBS: I tried to find the Ju 88 list someone posted here some time ago...but got no joy...does anyone do have a link for that list?

A.

Nothing matching your parameters from the Gen.Qu. reports, but a Ju 88A-5 WNr.4227 from 4./KG 30 did crash land at Gilze-Rijen on that date.

You mean probably this:

1941-01-31, 10./KG 30, Ju 87 B-1, 316, 4D+FZ, Fl.Pl. Ludwigslust
Flugzeugführer Uffz Deiss, Rudolf, +
Bordfunker Obgfr Glasner, Peter, +
Absturz nach Bombenwurf. Bruch 100 %.

Re: IV Gruppe KG 30 loss on 31 Jan 1941

But why IV Gruppe KG 30 would still have old Ju 87 B, whilst they were flying a multi-engined Ju 88? I can not see a purpose here..one is supposed to train on the machine one will fly operationally...

Maybe to train "dive bombing techniques" at a low cost (one single engine)?

They were using Ju 87 for dive bomber training. They even had Ju 87 in Denmark in 1945.

Carsten,

Thanks for the helpful information...yes, it saves fuel and maintenance costs....but it is weird to train on a machine you are not going to fly operationally in combat...the flying characteristics, the timing of bombing, the aiming, etc...it is all different....although the basic principle of diving bombing is (theoretically) the same.

My gratitude for enhancing my knowledge...the sites I researched about IV/KG 30 only mentions the Ju 88 A as type flown, hence my thought of a loss of this kind of airplane.

They were only used to familiarize crew to the dive itself. No actual bombing were done.

Junker,

Thank you very very much for this clarification and confirmation of the purpose for the use of those old machines up to 1944-1945!...Now it is clear in my mind the WHY of the use of them. Your confirmation was very very important to understand the overall picture.
