Two new early B-17F pictures

Any ideas as to unit. Two different B-17Fs with early (1943) markings

Re: Two new early B-17F pictures

First looks like 'LN-U':
8 USAAF, 100 BG, 350 BS.
One of these:

42-9738
42-30335
42-31049

Re: Two new early B-17F pictures

Gabor,

I agree that it looks like LN-U.

42-9738 not a B-17 serial number

42-31049 returned to the states

Has to be 42-30335, crash landed Sept 6,1943

Re: Two new early B-17F pictures

Sorry, it was a typo, I was gonna say 42-29738 which was assigned to the 100 BG indeed, however, later it went to 303 BG and lost over the North Sea, so obviously it could not be the one in the pic.

Gabor, no problem. Thanks for the help in identifying the airplane. Love your stuff on the Eastern Front air war, you should publish a book
