Info on found 109 F2 wreck and pilot.
Hello,
I have come across some items from a 109 wreck. The pilots info is below. Any pics from the unit, pilot, or plane would be greatly appreciated. Bf109 F2 6721 Ofw. Georg Mayr of 4./JG.52 (S.U.) Participated in combat operations over England in 1941, and the Soviet-German front in 1941. Georg had 2 kills (Spitfires over England) First victory was 5 km E of Deal on 7th of May 1941. A second Spitfire N of Dover on the 19th of May 1941. He was then transferred to the eastern front. August 11, 1941 Bf 109 F-2 W.Nr. 6721 "Weisse/White 5" was hit by fire from the ground from positions of Soviet troops. The plane fell in the northern part of Minyushi (south-west of the city of Novgorod, Russia) and died. I want to find more info on the pilot, camo patterns, pics, and plane. Do any of you have resources on finding such info? Thanks in advance. Last edited by SixFour619; 9th August 2017 at 09:07. |

Re: Info on found 109 F2 wreck and pilot.
Fw Georg Mayr of 4./JG 52 had five victories in 1941:
1 May 7 Spitfire 5 km east of Deal 0753 hrs 2 May 19 Spitfire north of Dover 1244 hrs 3 June 22 I-15 0950 hrs 4 June 26 DB-3 0950 hrs 5 July 3 DB-3 2030 hrs. Sources: Jagdfliegerverbände Teil 4/II page 156 and Teil 6/II page 41. The loss on August 11, 1941 is listed in the Gen.Qu. loss report from Aug 14, 1941 (Fw Georg Mayr vermisst). Correction from February 17, 1942 c): Fw Mayr gefallen. Streiche: 1 Vermissten. Setze: 1 Toten. Regards Leo |

I appreciate your help guys. What would have been a common paint scheme for them? Man I wish I could find some pics of him or his plane.

Re: Info on found 109 F2 wreck and pilot.
Hi Sixfour619
That's a nice selection of relics you have there, I managed to get some fuselage skinning wiring and interestingly a home made horse that was cut out of some metal that is similar to a coke can, I wonder if the horse may of had some relevance to Georg Mayr or Jg52 perhaps or maybe just a mascot, this was also found in the wreckage. Below are photos of the radio data plate showing Me109 F2 the aircraft type also an electrical plug from the armament. Attachment 15318 |

Amazing stuff man. This is my first time coming across stuff like this. I am trying to find photos of him or his plane. Or at least pics of planes in his unit. Any other leads on info on your end?

I've researched the same info shown so far on this thread, bar an Eastern front combat that Georg Mayr was involved with attacking Russian airfields. Hopefully you can piece together and read ok as not to great at posting images as yet. Like you I would like if possible of images of the Pilot and and aircraft. Hopefully something will come up in the near future. Photos to follow |

Re: Info on found 109 F2 wreck and pilot.
Hello SixFour619,
at present there are no pictures of Ofw Mayr and his Bf 109 F-2. In post #1 you have asked for the camo patterns of the II./JG 52 in 1941. In "Jagdfliegerverbände" Teil 6/II is detailed: the usual green/grey camouflage with mottling on the fuselage sides and a broad yellow fuselage band without the vertical Gruppe bar behind the Balkenkreuz. The underside of the wingtips were yellow. Geschwader emblem beneath the windscreen, a small Staffel emblem (red cat) beneath the cockpit. Regards Leo |
