Czech pilot

Hi guys

I have a note that a Czech pilot flying with GCI/9 (MS406) claimed a probable victory against an Italian SM79 on 17 June 1940.

Any details, please?

Cheers
Brian

Leendert will become famous soon enough
Re: Czech pilot

Brian,

This was over Tunisia. Patrol led by Czech pilot Lt Vezely. Full details and much more can be found on this website:

conflictuel.pagesperso-orange.fr/LGGtemp/Air_war_Italian_front_1940.doc

It will open as a Word document.

Or just enter "czech pllot sm79 june 1940" in Google and one of the first hits will show above website.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: Czech pilot

Hi Brian,

The SM 79 was from 36o Stormo and returned unharmed.
Info from mine and Ludovico Slongo's "Desert Prelude: Early clashes".

Best wishes/Håkan

Re: Czech pilot

Hi Brian,

the Czech pilot involved was lt. Vlastimil Vesely
You can find a few photos of him at

The pilot biography is in Czech language only.

Re: Czech pilot

Nadporučík Vlastimil Veselý (GC I/9, Morane MS-406 No 706, white 24) should attack off North African Coast S.79 Sparviero at 11.12 on June 17 1940. He was credited with probably destroyed plane.

There was attacked one S.79 (36 Stormo B.T.) by French Fighter nearby Sousse after bombing El Djem in Tunisia, but Italian Plane escaped without damage.
