Missing I/KG 40 Fw 200 C-4 28.10.42

Dear All, just joined the group. I understand there is an expert on the Condors / Kg 40? I have been asked by a German colleague for information regarding

missing. 28.10.1942.
F8+BB?
28.10.42 I/KG 40 Fw 200 C-4 109 At Iceland F 100 Missing Oblt. Rudolf Feldt (F) MIA Fw. Bernhard Korber (F) MIA Lt. Herbert Hachtmann (Bf) MIA Uffz. Georg Stiegler (Bf) MIA Ofw. Werner Sieth (Bm) MIA Uffz Walter Schultze (Bs) MIA.
Any pointers, hints to possible RAF/USAAF involvement. Don't mind buying the books, if relevant.
Thank you.

Re: Missing I/KG 40 Fw 200 C-4 28.10.42

Chris' book mentions the loss, but I can see no details other than it says he was in 3./KG40 and he failed to return from an armed reconnaissance mission in the Iceland/Greenland area on 28 Oct 1942.
The book - FW200 Condor Units of WW2 - is available at a good price in electronic form from Amazon.

The Crecy/Classic book has a comprehensive loss list-I think Peter is talking about the Osprey book?

Re: Missing I/KG 40 Fw 200 C-4 28.10.42

F8+KL / 0109 / Feldt / 3. Staffeln/KG 40 (Trondheim/Vaernes) and is missing still from "Mission to Iceland area"
Mission emphasis was on coasal areas in East- North- and West-of Iceland, particularily of Seyðisfjörður, area Reykjavik and Hvalfjörður.

No reports are of it beeing seen or heard over Iceland.
None known USAAF or RAF 330 (Norwegian) SQ involvement.
Two other Fw 200 flying to North of Iceland returned safe.
Several other Fw 200 searched for it next days but no trace.

This authors opinion is it never made it over here and possibly lost on outward flight.
Weather over east coast was fog/foggy. No W/T contact after takeoff (13:40 local)
but that was normal.

REF: F8+KL Mission Report, reports from RAF 330(N)SQ and AAF Iceland Base Command etc.
NOTE: This period of operations over Iceland is extensively researched by this author and far
more complete than found in published books (including Chris Goss Fw 200 work).

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Any theories. Perhaps shot down by something in between Greenland and Iceland. Could be anywhere!

Feldt gets a number of mentions in my book. He was an experienced pilot and awarded the Pokal 26 Oct 42. How he and his crew were lost is not known

Thank you for the follow up. Its Korber's nephew who is enquiring. He also told me that Korber was worried about the mechanical reliability of the Condor on his last leave.
