Fw190D-9 in Schlachtgeschwader 151?

Hello all,

I have a question concerning the possible usage of Fw190D-9 with 15./SG 151. In the book "Flugplatz Döberitz: Geburtsort der militärischen Luftfahrt in Deutschland" it is stated that at the beginning of 1945, the 15th Staffel was based for four weeks in Döberitz and equipped with Fw190A and Fw190D-9!
The Staffel flew ground-attack and anti-tank sorties before transferring to Jüterbog-Damm.

This is the first time I have heard of Fw190D-9 in service with a Schlacht replacement unit, neither Stankey / de Zeng's Dive Bomber and Ground Attack Units of the Luftwaffe nor Carlsen / Meyer's Die Flugzeugführer-Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe give any hint or reference to such an allocation!

Is there any other source confirming or disproving this issue?

Thanks in advance and best regards

Michael

There are a handfull of photos in both Jerry Crandall's and JaPo's Fw 190D books of Fw 190D-9's in Schlacht service but I don't know which units that used them.

There is at least one picture of a Fw-190D-9 with wing bomb racks. II/SG10 used Fw-190D-9s (Dive Bomber and Ground Attack 1933-1945 Vol2 by de Zeng / Stankey) page 295

Thank you very much for your anwers!

I know about the Fw190D-9s serving with III./SG 1, Stab SG 2 and II./SG 10. But specifically I would like to inquire about the aircraft's possible service with SG 151, a replacement unit! For instance I know about Fw190D-9s with II./EJG 1, a Jagd replacement unit, but never heard about other replacement units using that type!

Is it possible the "replacement training component" remained at Doeberitz to provide accelerated tactical training on Fw 190 D-9s for pilots bound for the units that had that type? Meanwhile, the "Einsatzstaffel" component with the Ju 87s departed Doeberitz and fought at the front with this type until the war ended. It is this latter component that we have information about. The other component at Doeberitz seems to have disappeared in a fog and not heard of again. Perhaps there is a Flugbuch or two out there that could shed more light on this question. There is also a member here who has devoted his life to studying the Fw 190 and may be the only person who knows one way or the other. His initials are A.A.

For what it's worth, parts of SG 151 seem to have become operational units in all but name by the last months of the war. The 13. flew against partisans in Yugoslavia from 1944 (first on Ju 87s, then on Fw 190 F-8s); there are many SG 151 losses recorded in action against Soviet bridgeheads on the Oder in February and March 1945.

Re: Fw190D-9 in Schlachtgeschwader 151?

Hi,

A Luftwaffe document dated 3 February 1945 stated:

"Bezug: Ferngespräch Major i.G. Lauer - Hptm. i.G. Schuele für Osteinsatz durch 1. Jagddivision wurden zur Verfügung gestellt:

...
2. General der Schlachtflieger:
A) 14./S.G. 151 Staaken - 17 FW 190
B) 15./S.G. 151 Döberitz - 19 Ju 87 für Tag(einsatz), 16 Besatzungen
9 Ju 87 für Nachteinsatz, 15 Besatzungen
für Tag- und Nachteinsatz
C) II./S.G. 151 Finsterwalde 8 FW 190 für Bombeneinsatz
39 FW 190 Panzerblitz, 26 Besatzungen
5 FW 190 Panzerschreck"

On 6 March 1945 the 15. Staffel still had Ju 87 Ds on strength. That is the last day I can find any losses for 15./S.G. 151.

Looking at the April 1945 orders of battle on Holm's site, 15./S.G. 151 does not appear anywhere. Don't have time to do more digging now, but perhaps one of our German members knows more?

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Re: Fw190D-9 in Schlachtgeschwader 151?

Thank you all very much for your answers!

I think for my part that the statement regarding Fw190D-9's service with 15./SG 151 might be incorrect. In the aforementioned book there is no footnote or source given, which might corroborate this story! Also it does not make any sense to equip a dedicated Ju87 nocturnal ground-attack unit with state-of the-art fighter aircraft!

@Andrew: Thanks again! When is your Air War Courland book scheduled for release? I am looking forward to it, since my late grandfather, a technican with 5./JG 54 at Cirava, told me only very little about this time.

Best

Michael

I/SG 151 at Grove/DK had at least one D-9 april 1945, as stated in a Flugbuch.
