Fw 190 loss 28. Sept. 1944
Does anybody know which 9. AF unit claims a Fw 190 of JG 2 25 km south of Koblenz (St. Goarshausen area) at this day?

Re: Fw 190 loss 28. Sept. 1944
I´ve got some more details about this loss:
Fw 190 A-8, Werk.Nr 171 531, Gefr. Richard Himpel (1./JG 2), and a problem: -"Luftkampf mit P-47" (German sources) -"Shot down in combat with two Mustangs" (eyewitness) Did anybody have further informations about claims of USAAF-units in this area for that day? Every information is welcome, Regards, Heuser (And a big THANK YOU to "Kaczmarek" from Luftarchiv.de) |

Re: Fw 190 loss 28. Sept. 1944
341 & 411 Sqns each claimed 2 aircraft (no details) whilst American fighters claimed 27. American claims appeared to be in the Magdeburg/Halberstadt area although there were 3 claims in the Arnhem area and a FW 190 at Bingen

Re: Fw 190 loss 28. Sept. 1944
Great work, thank you again. Did the 356 FS use P-47 or P-51? I found both coded with AJ-...

Re: Fw 190 loss 28. Sept. 1944
I´m impressed! Thank you all!
Today I visited the grave of Richard Himpel and it was in good condition. My eyewitness told me, he saw a Fw 190 between two Mustangs on this day. After hearing machine gun fire, he saw the german pilot bailing out in low altitude, but his parachute didn´t open completely... One thing very interesting for me: The answer of this witness about the type of US-aircrafts: "Definitly Mustangs!!! We could distinguish between Mustangs and Thunderbolts!" In 1944 he was ten years old... I´m sorry about my dreadful english, but I hope it will be understandable...ops: Best Regards, Heuser |
