An unequal air battle ensued between the fighters. Art. Lieutenant Kuleshov crashed into a group of 10 fighters, and Lieutenant Rutkovsky - into a group of 7 fighters. Both Hurricanes were hit, but the pilots fought for 10 minutes. Rutkovsky shot down a Me-109 on a burning plane, after which he covered his leader. 26.05.42 г. немецкая авиация произвела налет на станцию Тайбола. В налете участвовали 10 Ю-88 в сопровождении 17 истребителей Ме-109 и Ме-110.

По тревоге с аэродрома Кица поднялась пара Харрикейнов из 197 иап (ВВС 14 армии), ст. лейтенанта Ф.П.Кулешова и лейтенанта В.К.Рутковского. Советские летчики атаковали бомбардировщиков. Первое звено Юнкерсов поспешно сбросило бомбы мимо цели, а остальные, не сбросив бомб, скрылись.

Между истребителями завязался неравный воздушный бой. Ст. лейтенант Кулешов врезался в группу 10 истребителей, а лейтенант Рутковский - в группу из 7 истребителей. Оба Харрикейна были подбиты, но летчики в течение 10 минут вели бой. Рутковский на горящем самолете сбил Ме-109, после чего прикрывал своего ведущего. Лишь падая на окончательно подбитом самолете, с высоты 70 метров выпрыгнул с парашютом методом срыва и благополучно приземлился. Кулешов на самолете, получившем 129 пробоин, вышел из боя и благополучно сел на свой аэродром.

Оба советских летчика были награждены орденами Красного Знамени.

There was a big battle between 24 Bf.109+7 Bf.110, which covered 6 Ju.87, and 20 soviet fighters (9 Hurricanes, 5 P-39 and 6 P-40). From german side participate 10., 5., 6. and 8./JG 5. All six claims belonged to this battle, real losses was 4 Hurricanes and 1 pilot killed (sgt. Bulychev from 769 IAP, most probable downed by Fiedler)
