COPP VI ??
Hi guys
Out of my depth with this, but have been asked to find out more! On 24 July, 1943 RN Submarine Unseen departed Malta for her 13th war patrol (12th in the Mediterranean). She was ordered to perform several special operations (beach reconnaissance) on the east Calabrian coast of Italy; on board she had a party from COPP VI. At 22:00 hours on 30 July (zone -2), she surfaced to launch the COPP party for a beach reconnaissance near Cape Colonna, Crotone. The folbot with the party left shortly after 22:00hrs and returned at 00:30. The next night at 21:40hrs she surfaced to launch the COPP party for a beach reconnaissance near Cape Colonna. The folbot with the party left at 22:00hrs and returned at 00:55. On 3 August (zone -2), Unseen surfaced at 21:40hrs to launch the COPP party for another beach reconnaissance, near Cape Rizzuto. The folbot with the party left around 22:00hrs and returned at 00:40. What was the purpose of this, and what was COPP ?? Any help appreciated Cheers Brian |

Re: COPP VI ??
COPP were "Combined Operations Pilotage Parties".
More information in the "expandable" description for this book: https://www.amazon.com/Stealthily-Ni.../dp/B00AAMH2O0 Some chapters of the book can be seen here: https://books.google.com/books?id=0n...0night&f=false Also quite a bit of info in these links, showing equipment, missions and members of various parties including COPP 6 (COPP VI?) : http://www.coppheroes.org/index1.htm https://www.combinedops.com/COPPs.htm and a brief mention here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphibious_reconnaissance Last edited by RSwank; 2nd May 2019 at 15:03. |

Re: COPP VI ??
Brian,
The missions with the submarine "UNSEEN" can been found here (search for COPP). Missions start in May, 1943. https://www.uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3557.html |
