Seeking WNr and photos for Stab III./KG2 Do17Z that force-landed in Switzerland on 20.04.40

Hello,

In the EoE Loss DB we have this entry:

20 April 1940: Stabsstaffel III./KG2 Dornier Do17Z-3. Lost bearings during night sortie and landed low on fuel at Basel-Birsfelden in Switzerland. (Beo) Lt Horst von der Groeben, (Ff) Uffz Otto Hermann, (Bf) Uffz Waldemar Schweinoch, and (Bm) Uffz Walter Böke interned. Aircraft U5+BD 100% write-off.
This aircraft was interned, made airworthy, and later flew in Swiss markings. But with the cessation of hostilities in France, it was returned to Germany by Oberlt Reinhard Hausin who flew from Altenrhein to Friedrichshafen on September 19, 1940. The crew was repatriated to Germany on June 28, 1940 at Stetten-Lörrach.

Can anyone provide the W.Nr. of this a/c? I'm certain that the Swiss would have taken many photos of this a/c. Does anyone have any showing it down in Switzerland?

Sinisa,

Thanx for your reference to the previous work by Göran Larsson regarding information on this a/c. In the referenced post, I didn't see any photos of the a/c as it appeared in the original German markings. Are any such photos known to exist? This could possibly be an important subject of profile art for Stab III./KG2 during the late Sitzkrieg (Phoney War) period.

Also, does anyone have copies of any of the photos in the Ries book, or the Jet Prop Magazine articles that they would be willing to share with the EoE Project?

Who would be willing to translate the substance of the story about this a/c from German into English for the project?

Regards,

Hello,

So that we don't have multiple people responding at the same time for translation support for the referenced articles, Göran Larsson has offered to do this. Obviously, with Peter's EoE entry posted above, we have the outline of the info but now I'm looking more for text story that will carry an interesting narrative about what happened. Thanx Göran!

To anyone else, we still need the photos indicated above. I'm also looking for any good photos of the a/c, especially the full fuselage code, that do not appear in these photos. The Swiss must have taken many photos of this Do17, so I'm sure that they would exist somewhere

Hi Larry,

I think one solution might be contacting the Swiss Federal Archives:

Ed,

Thanx. I'll have to do that if I don't get any response to my efforts to otherwise find copies of photos relating to this a/c.
