Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

Does anyone know what was the fate of the 4 pilots: H. Rühl (I./JG53), K. Roos (II./JG53), O. Zauner (II./JG53), H. Wolter (II./JG54)?

Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

Hello Dmitry

I can only add that Unteroffizier Heinrich Rühl of 1./JG 53 went missing in Bf 109 F-2 "Black <-3-" (W.Nr. 6707) near Dover following aerial combat with Spitfire fighters on 4 June 1941. At the time he was an ace with five victories. He had previously been shot down in aerial combat with RAF fighters and forced to ditch in the Channel but was rescued by a German vessel on 2 September 1940.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Fate of 3 of the 4 Jagdwaffe pilots

Ltn. Otto Zauner, 5./JG 53, Bf 109E-1 WNr.4010, “graue 12”
POW 23.Nov. 1940 after Luftkampf with Hurricane from 605 Sq. (Sgt. Pettit). Notlandung near Smeeth, Kent

Ltn. Karl Roos, 5./JG 53
26.Aug. 1940 Luftkampf. Crashed at sea, north of Cherbourg, rescued by Seenotdienst.

I don’t have a Wolter with JG 54, perhaps he is this pilot?
Fw. Hermann Wolter, 8./JG 11, Bf 109G-6 WNr. 18857, “schwarze 12”
MIA 2.Oct. 1943 after Luftkampf, nördlich Juist

Hope this helps, GRM

Re: Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

Apologies guy's a little bit of topic drift here but I presume that the 'Blue 12+' colour for Ltn. Otto Zauner's markings is a colour misidentification in the A.I.1(g) report?

Re: Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

Dmitry,

Ltn Karl Roos went to instructor duties with JFS Furth in 1941 - after which he held several positions in training units including from 8 Nov 43 Staffelkapitan 3./JG 107 to 31 May 44, then Staffelkapitan 5./JG 103 to 18 Jul 44, then Staffel Kapitan 7./JG 103 to 14 Nov 44, then StaffelKapitan 5./JG 103 to 14 Feb 45 - I do not know what happened to him after that?

Ltn Horst Wolter claimed one victory (7 Apr 41) with 4./JG 54 - I believe that this is the same Ltn Horst Wolter who was KIA 9 Aug 41 with 14./JG 77 reportedly with 11 victories.

The information on the others that I have are covered in the earlier posts.

Regards,

Craig...

Re: Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

Thank you guys for information. I'm trying to establish units where these pilots were on 22.06.1941. So, only H.Wolter went to Ostfront.

Same question about 3 pilots from II./JG27:
Karl-Heinz Bendert - claim N6-06.09.40, N7-22.11.41
Emmerich Fluder - claim N5-01.09.40, N6-22.11.41, WIA 03.09.40 so maybe in hospital
Ferdinand Vögl - claim N4-06.09.40, N5-23.11.41

I can't find MIA date for H.Rühl (I./JG53) and his claims N4-5 in Prien's JFV 4-I and 5.

Best regards
Dmitry

Re: Fate of the 4 jagdwaffe pilots

What is the evidence, that Uffz. Karl Heinrich Rühl was lost in a collision with No 609 Sqn Spitfire? I find no such suggestion in the No 609 ORB.

Was this covered in Brothers in Arms? I do not have it handy, and not sure if to look for it.
