Re: unknown attack on german airfield

Do you know if this was from a bomber or fighter attack? If fighter, would Lubeck-Schwerin and/or Schwerin fit the location? If so, I have some possibilities.

Re: unknown attack on german airfield

hi,

schwerin has nothing to do with luebeck. this airflied is called Luebeck-blankensee. the attack might be carried out by fighters. no more damage is recorded.

all the best

Jim,

Have you considered Mustangs of 122 Wing? I believe 19 Sqn was in the Aalborg area that day, obviously a long way off but perhaps one of the other sqns in the wing (ie 65, 122).

Re: unknown attack on german airfield

On 21 May 1944, Lübeck and Schwerin were attacked by P-51 Mustangs from 359th Fighter Group (East Wretham/England). At Lübeck, Lt. E.R. Orwig from the Group's 369th Fighter Squadron claimed 1 unidentified aircraft destroyed and 1 more damaged, both on the ground. Although not so stated, this was almost certainly at Lübeck-Blankensee airfield and the aircraft possibly belonged to Stab/KG 26.
